Our CO2 lasers all come equipped with safety interlocks. These devices cut off the tube's ability to fire when triggered. They are safety features for both you and the laser tube. There are 2 interlocks on every one of our CO2 lasers.
Lid Interlock
The first and most obvious is the Lid Interlock. A magnet sensor is placed to detect if the lid is open or closed. This will prevent the actual CO2 beam from firing when the lid is opened, even mid-job. The red diode in the rear will be unaffected but as the CO2 laser is invisible and can cause injury to your skin or eyes- it's needed as a preventative measure.
Water Interlock
Second is the water sensor. This one is tucked in the back under the laser tube or on a Pro-series comes from the alarm cable leading to your chiller. While this one isn't necessarily safety related it does help preserve your laser tube's lifespan. The waste heat from lasing needs to be taken away or it will exhaust the gasses that generate the beam. If the water isn't running, the beam will not fire.
On Muse series machines both Interlocks will have a display indicator at the bottom of the touchscreen letting you know whether either interlock is triggered. Red would indicate an issue with the machine sensing that particular one.
