No machine, even those of the same models, will behave the exact same. The machines can function differently simply by having belts that are tightened differently or by a laser tube with a single watt difference.
Ensure you reach optical performance by making sure your machine is focused properly. We recommend having a set of anodized aluminum business cards, such as those found here on Amazon.
The Pro machines have a focusing nozzle for the laser to automatically enter its focusing position. However there is a possibility that your machine will require minor adjustments after being auto-focused. As your machine autofocuses, observe the red diode. The red diode can be adjusted incrementally until the red diode reaches it’s finest point (see below for reference). The laser would have reached its focusing center, where it has reached its most precise engravings.
In order to further dial in your laser we recommend drawing a 5 x 5 mm vector square and run it at 100% -speed and 20% -power in RE3. Observe the clarity of the square. Move the square over and rerun it at 5% less power until it barely marks. Write down this Z position, then jog the Z table up by 2mm up or down to check the brightness. The square should be dimmer in both directions, indicating that you found your ideal Z position.
