Due to their fragility, lenses are considered consumable items. While the power levels of our Muse machines may seem high, they do not have enough energy to crack the lens.
The reason for 99% of premature lens failure/cracking is failure to keep your lens clean. Debris buildup is expected when you are cutting materials that produce fumes. It is for that reason that Muse devices have inline pressurized air that keeps the lens clean. However, fumes are still likely to settle on top of the lens. Once dirt settles on the top, the laser energy that used to easily pass through the lens is now absorbed into the lens. This dirt build up will crack the lens if not cleaned properly.
We recommend you clean you lenses before every use with optical grade lens wipes. These lens wipes can be easily found in local grocery stores or online. If the machine is not in use we still recommend a weekly cleaning to ensure your lens has a long service life.
If you're a person that wants your machine to run well but don't have the time to clean the lenses, FSL has created a sealed lens chamber for certain machines with a 45 degree optical window that prevents dirt from settling on top of the lens element. Ask sales@fslaser.com for a quote to upgrade your lens if it doesn't have the 45 degree chamber lens.
